- Naz Reid has the second shortest odds to win SMOY with +120 odds behind Malik Monk.
- Reid has moved into a starting role for the inured KAT and Monk is out for the season.
- Reid’s odds went from +1200 before March to +500 by March 15 and now are +120.
MINNEAPOLIS – Naz Reid has played a huge part in the Minnesota Timberwolves sitting right at the number one spot with the Nuggets in the Western Conference and he has the second shortest odds to win 2023-24 sixth man of the year.
NBA Sixth Man Of The Year Odds
- Malik Monk (SAC): -150
- Naz Reid (MIN): +120
- Norman Powell (LAC): +900
- Bobby Portis (MIL): +5000
- Bogdan Bogdanovic (ATL): +12500
- Caris LeVert (CLE): +12500
For the majority of the season coming off of the bench, Reid was playing around 23-25 minutes per game. From November through February, he averaged 13 points per game. After Karl Anthony Towns suffered a torn meniscus on March 7th, Reid ended up making the starting five in most games.
Malik Monk sprained his MCL on March 29th, sidelining the Sixth Man favorite for four to six weeks. This means that Monk cannot do anything more to make his case for the award, as Naz Reid continues to see increased minutes and scoring opportunities.
As it stands now, here are how both player’s full regular season stats stack up:
Naz Reid | Malik Monk | |
---|---|---|
Points | 13.3 | 15.4 |
Assists | 1.3 | 5.1 |
Rebounds | 5.1 | 2.9 |
Steals | 0.7 | 0.6 |
Blocks | 0.9 | 0.5 |
Minutes | 24.1 | 26 |
In the month of March, Reid averaged 28.9 minutes and 16.4 points per game. He has shot just under 40% from three, including three games with at least five threes made in that month. When starting, he has taken on the power forward position and has made his name known throughout the league and at legal sports betting sites.
His odds at legal NBA betting sites have jumped drastically since he began starting for the Timberwolves. At the beginning of March, Reid had +1200 odds and then he saw another jump to +550 on the 15th of March.
There are only seven games left in the NBA regular season and Karla Anthony Towns is not going to return before it ends. This means Reid’s minutes should stay consistent or increase, along with his odds of beating out the injured Malik Monk.
Is Naz Reid Eligible To Win SMOY?
According to NBA rules, a player must come off of the bench in more games than he starts to be eligible to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award. Naz Reid has only started in nine games during the 2023-24 season and there are only seven games left. In total, he has played 74 games this season, making him more than qualified to take home the award.
Is Malik Monk Eligible To Win SMOY?
Even though he is out for the remainder of the regular season, Malik Monk played enough games (72) to be eligible to win NBA season awards (65).
