NEW YORK – Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York now has odds up for becoming the Democratic candidate in the 2020 Presidential Election.

While he has not thrown his hat in the ring, his popularity has reached new heights due to his response to the Coronavirus pandemic that has wreaked havoc on New York. His newfound popularity is not exclusive to the Empire State as his daily updates on the pandemic have gone nationwide.

Sportsbooks have begun to list his odds for not only the Democratic nominee category but also his odds of winning the 2020 Presidential Election against President Donald Trump.

The Odds On Cuomo

Sports betting sites like BetOnline have added Cuomo’s name to the list of people with a shot at becoming the next President of the United States, even if the Governor has not yet declared candidacy himself.

If social media is any indication, it would appear that Cuomo has become an overnight sensation as the hashtag #PresidentCuomo is trending. The public is loving his strategy toward fighting the Coronavirus outbreak, believing he is outdoing the efforts of current President Donald Trump in this situation.

“My mother is not expendable, and your mother is not expendable, and our brothers and sisters are not expendable and we’re not going to accept the premise that human life is disposable. We’re not going to put a dollar figure on human life,” said Cuomo on Tuesday in response to Trump wanting to get the public back to normal working order soon.

To win the Democratic nominee category and get his name on the ballot, Cuomo has been given odds of (+2500). To win the Presidency, his odds have been set at (+5000).

Is It Possible?

While the two candidates up for the Democratic nomination are former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, it is possible for the Democratic party to allow for Cuomo to take the nomination should they decide to do it themselves. Rather than choose between Biden or Sanders, they have the right to add a third option in Cuomo.

However, this may not occur because although it is within their rights to do it, it doesn’t sync up with the Democratic way of thinking in the way of fairness. Sanders and Biden have been campaigning and working hard to get on the ballot and Cuomo hasn’t even entered the race.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Democrats may need to have a brokered convention as primary voting has been postponed to stop the spreading of the virus.

If a candidate is not chosen by July through primary voting, a brokered convention could help the odds sway in Cuomo’s favor of being an option because it would allow for a whole new set of votes to take place.

With social media and legal sports betting sites in his corner, the Governor of New York could very well be among Biden and Sanders as choices for the 2020 Presidential Election.
