BOSTON – The NBA and ESPN are currently finalizing the details of a H-O-R-S-E competition and the odds are up for fans that want to gamble on the event.
Those that normally bet on the NBA will now be able to bet on professional basketball for one of the first times since March 12, when the games were suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Presently it is unknown when the season will start up again as the outbreak of the virus continues to spread which is why the league, along with the ESPN network, have come together to create this competition.
The H-O-R-S-E Competition
What is H-O-R-S-E? Anyone that went to grade school may be familiar with this popular playground game. To break it down, players each take turns at making a basket in the same way that the previous player did.
Each time an athlete misses, they are given a letter until they finally spell out the word horse and will no longer be competing in the game. This means each competitor gets five chances to miss their shot.
“Discussions have been ongoing among the NBA, NBPA and ESPN about a competition among several players in isolation,” said Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Due to social distancing and quarantine guidelines, NBA players will be competing from their own homes going shot for shot against one another. Some of the biggest names in basketball are expected to compete. Details on who exactly will be involved and when the game will take place are being discussed and will be announced as soon as everything has been finalized.
News of this competition is just the latest in creative endeavors that the NBA has been coming up with since they’ve had to shut down amid COVID-19 issues. They’ve also started a player’s only NBA 2K Tournament that has 16 NBA players competing through an Xbox One device for sports enthusiasts to watch.
