OPINION: In Stadium Sports Betting Is The Future

• Audi Field launches the first MLS in-stadium sportsbook in the country through the D.C. United MLS team’s partnership with Caesars Sportsbook.
• There are six markets that have been approved in-stadium sportsbooks but Arizona will be home to sportsbooks at multiple stadiums.

PHOENIX – With the launch of the Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field, the next wave in legal sports betting has arrived.

Stadium sports betting is poised to be a major draw for players. There are currently six markets that allow stadium sportsbooks. Should these markets show continued success, other states are likely to follow with bringing retail sportsbooks to stadiums.

Easy Access

One of the main reasons why online sportsbooks are more popular than retail operation is that sports betting fans would rather wager where they are.

A bettor who is already at a retail casino that hosts a sportsbook would have no problem placing a wager while they are there. However, sports betting fans are less likely to strictly travel to a casino operation to bet if there are other options.

However, with in-stadium betting, these same fans will already be at the stadium cheering on their local teams.

There are sports fans who go to games multiple times throughout the year. Season ticket holders who are die heard fans of their local teams would easily embrace sportsbooks that are at the stadium.

Fans are there to watch the sporting event and have sports on their mind. With sports betting available at the stadium, these fans will flock to the betting lounge as they are already in the building.

Sports Betting In Stadiums

Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Ohio, and Washington D.C. are all jurisdictions that allow for regulated retail sportsbooks at local stadiums.

Washington DC was the first to go live with its in-stadium efforts and Arizona has several locations currently active. Local Arizona sports betting fans can place wagers at the FanDuel Sportsbook at Footprint Center in Phoenix and at the Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field.

Barstool Sportsbook will be launching its operation at the Phoenix Raceway while BetMGM and DraftKings will also be launching at local stadiums in Arizona.

Illinois will see a DraftKings sportsbook open at Wrigley Field by the end of 2022 through the partnership with the Chicago Cubs.

Once all the stadium sportsbooks are live and show a lot of success, fans in other markets with prominent sports teams can expect to see new stadium sportsbooks as well.

The future of sports betting is stadium sportsbooks.
