- The Oregon Lottery will transfer the state-wide mobile betting app duties from Scoreboard to DraftKings.
- DraftKings pulled its DFS product from Oregon as a show of good faith in July that they were serious about becoming a sportsbook for the lottery.
- The Oregon Lottery Commission voted unanimously for the switch during their meeting on Thursday.
SALEM, Ore. – Sports betting fans in Oregon will see a new way to bet on sports as the Scoreboard mobile app will be officially replaced by DraftKings.
The Oregon Lottery Commission voted unanimously to switch to the mobile sports betting platform during their Thursday meeting. DraftKings will now become the sole mobile betting app in Oregon.
Those betting on sports in Oregon can expect the switch to occur as soon as lawmakers complete the transfer.
DraftKings Meets Oregon
DraftKings has been working to become the sole sportsbook in Oregon for some time now. The popular sports betting operation recently pulled its DFS product as a sign of good faith in July.
The Oregon Lottery’s Scoreboard app saw its parent company SBTech get purchased by DraftKings. This opened the door for DraftKings to replace Scoreboard altogether in Oregon.
The Commission Meeting saw no objections as the Oregon Lottery moves to see the transition happen in time for the NFL season.
This Transition Will Not Be Seamless
Unfortunately, Oregon residents will not see a seamless transition. Despite DraftKings owning SBTech, sports betting fans in Oregon will have to create all new accounts from scratch. DraftKings has not yet announced how it will handle switching over betting wallets along with other crucial details for gamblers.
DraftKings has also not given an official switch date either, leaving betting fans with little time to prepare for the official transition.
The good news to take away from all of this is that DraftKings is likely to be a better alternative in Oregon. The Scoreboard betting app had never become the success the Oregon lottery was looking for and DraftKings name recognition alone should fix things.
DraftKings is one of the biggest sportsbooks in the country, only behind FanDuel in terms of overall market share value.
The 2021-2022 NFL season is the perfect time for the transition to take place as an influx of new wagers will be coming in and be accessing DraftKings.
While the start may be a bit rocky, the regulated sports betting market in Oregon is expected to see major growth with this move.
