- Sports betting fans in Oregon increased betting handle by 5.3%.
- Sports betting revenue is also up 98.6%.
- Oregon saw the most action on NBA games.
SALEM, Ore. – Oregon sports betting has seen steady growth month over month in April. This comes from most betting fans placing action on the NBA.
The Oregon Lottery’s Scoreboard app is the only regulated mobile betting option in the state, with the rest of the revenue coming from retail tribal operations.
There is a new sports betting bill in the works that would expand sports betting in Oregon but it is currently stalled in the state legislature.
Oregon Sports Betting Growth
The official report released by the Oregon Lottery shows that sports betting activity is up 5.3% in April from March. Sports betting fans wagered $25.3 million compared to the $24 million in April wagered in March.
The big story, however, is the increase in sports betting revenue as Oregon saw a 98.6% month over month surge. Sportsbooks collected $2.72 million in April compared to the $1.3 million in March. This could be due to the rampant increase in NBA wagers as the season nears its end.
In addition, sports betting fans were unable to wager in the NCAA March Madness Tournament using the Scoreboard app last month, so increased attention to NBA betting could be a result of being stifled with college basketball betting.
Oregon lawmakers have been working to increase overall betting options in the state, with HB 21274 currently awaiting review in the House of Representatives.
Unfortunately, the bill has remained stalled in the House as legislators push it aside as they discuss other state issues.
The bill would transfer regulation of the Oregon sports betting market from the Oregon lottery to the Oregon Racing Commission and also open up the state to accept more mobile sports betting operations.
It is currently unknown as to when the bill will be reviewed, so for now sports betting in Oregon remains the way it is.
Oregon’s success in April is still something to celebrate after having back-to-back decreases in revenue and activity in February and March. The legal sports betting market may continue to fluctuate in this manner until an expansion is approved.
