The field at the Memorial last week was one of the best collections of talent in a non-major tournament in the history of the sport with Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, and Tiger Woods himself just a few of the entrants.
Unfortunately, it was oftentimes hard to tell the skill level of the field through all the high scores and penalty drops.
Not a single golfer shot under par in every round, with the eventual winner Jon Rahm enjoying a five-stroke lead for much of the final (rainy) day.
While the names at the Memorial dazzled, the play did not, leaving many legal sports betting fans out to dry. Hopefully, this week will provide a more closely contested tournament at TPC Twin Cities.
The 3M Open will be played on its regular scheduled date of July 23 to 36, a feat hard to come by in a world rescheduled by the pandemic.
This event last year saw four players shoot a 62, including winner Matthew Wolff who finds himself back in the field looking to repeat.
At the top of the board, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are the leaders despite a poor showing at Muirfield Village. DJ missed the +3 cut at a whopping +16 after shooting back to back 80’s. Koepka managed to sneak into the weekend but bowed out at +12 himself.
DJ does have a win just a few weeks ago, so if golf bettors need to choose a chalk pick, go with him.
Elsewhere, Tommy Fleetwood and Tony Finau are both available at +1400.
Fleetwood won’t be expected to win in his first week back since the reboot, and Finau proved he just isn’t quite ready to take that next step after a cringe-worthy collapse at the Memorial.
Instead, put faith in last year’s winner Wolff, as he is going for +2500 and has been playing well since the restart. He will look to repeat as champion here after winning on a sponsor’s exemption last year.
