Philadelphia Union, Parx Casino Enter Partnership

• The Philadelphia Union soccer team is the latest team to partner with a casino.
• MLS was the first league to agree to sell both the rights to name their stadiums, as well as alter their jerseys with sponsorships to sports wagering businesses.
• Both will begin to take place in 2020.

PHILADELPHIA – Parx Casino in Philadelphia has partnered with Major League Soccer (MLS) team the Philadelphia Union, and the Talen Energy Stadium.

This partnership is just the latest in casinos and sports franchises teaming up as both sides have the potential to profit from forming alliances. In March, MLS signed a deal with MGM Resorts International making them their official gaming partner over the course of a multi-year contract.

In this instance in Pennsylvania, soccer fans that had no idea about placing wagers on the games can now do so through Parx, creating a new revenue stream for the casino. And on the other side of the spectrum, sports bettors that knew nothing about the Philadelphia Union will now be wagering on them, giving the team a wider range of fans that will bring new revenue with them.

“We’re excited to partner with the Philadelphia Union and the fastest growing professional sport in the US,” said Marc Oppenheimer, Chief Marketing Officer of Parx Casino. “MLS looks to be a great partner for the emerging legalized sports betting business. We look forward to working with the Union to maximize the value for their franchise and Parx.”

Under the contract, Parx Casino will have the monopoly when it comes to being the Presenting Partner of the Halftime Show for all locally televised games. They will also be active during game days in Talen Energy Stadium at the Toyota Plaza.

“Parx Casino is the premiere destination for gaming and sports gambling, not only for the Philadelphia-area but for the state of Pennsylvania as a whole,” said Jean-Paul Dardenne, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Philadelphia Union. “We are confident that our fan-base will enjoy the added fun, perks and prizes of the Parx presence on game days.”

There will be people outside of the stadium on game days encouraging fans to download the Parx app for sports betting. Anyone who downloads the app will automatically be entered to a win a series of prizes, which includes a grand prize all-expenses paid trip for four to New York to see the Philadelphia Union play the New York Red Bulls.
