NEW YORK – The NBA has announced a new multiyear partnership with an online sportsbook, PointsBet. PointsBet will be the 11th authorized sports betting provider of the NBA and will look to make a name for themselves through their partnership
With the deal, they will hit the ground running as they look to use their own software right off the bat.
PointsBet is a fairly new online sportsbook that started in January of 2019 in Australia. They recently broke into the United States in New Jersey and Iowa. As their partnership with the NBA will eventually grow, they will be incorporating their own software to the many NBA digital platforms.
The agreement between the two organizations will also give those betting on the NBA a feature they haven’t seen before on other sports betting sites.
Win Probability Metric
As mentioned before, PointsBet will come into this partnership and use their own software. That software is “Win Probability Metric.” The purpose of it is it will give you real-time projections of an NBA game while it’s still being played. Based on the point differential and how many points a team has scored in a quarter.
“As a tech company at heart, the PointsBet team is excited to work with a league as savvy and forward-thinking as the NBA…We’re certainly aligned in looking to present fans with the best experience possible, and we look forward to enhancing the sports betting aspect via Win Probability Metric Powered by PointsBet,” said Johnny Aitken CEO of PointsBet USA.
“We are thrilled to partner with PointsBet on its first U.S. sports league betting partnership, as they continue to grow their business throughout the U.S….PointsBet has a unique offering in the marketplace and we are excited to find new ways to engage with fans together,” said Scott Kaufman-Ross, Senior Vice President, Head of Fantasy and Gaming, NBA.
NBA Digital Platform
With this partnership, the NBA is adding and enhancing its already impressive digital platforms with the Win Probability Metric as well. This will give PointsBet a presence within the NBA’s online landscape.
- NBATV
- NBA.com
- NBA app
- NBA League Pass
These are the NBA’s four major digital platforms. Between all of them, they have 1.6 billion in likes and followers throughout the world.
Viewers will be able to see that software when watching NBA League pass or NBATV as well as just checking it out on NBA.com or the NBA App. While PointsBet only operates in two states with legal sports betting, the market is set to grow this year and their deal will remain in place for when that happens.
