BALTIMORE – Only two weeks after a historic Kentucky Derby finish, Baltimore is set to host the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Although, the possibility of a Triple Crown winner this year has been scratched. Maximum Security crossed the finish line first in the Kentucky Derby but was later disqualified for swerving into other horses’ lanes. Maximum Security’s owner Gary West has since decided to pull his horse from the Preakness Stakes.
“There’s no Triple Crown on the line for us, and there’s no reason to run a horse back in two weeks when you don’t have to,” said West in an interview with NBC.
Country House, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, will also not participate this year due to an illness.
Although, there are still some of the top names in horse racing participating in the 2019 Preakness Stakes including Improbable, War of Will, Bodexpress, and Win Win Win. In what is expected to be the largest Preakness field since 2011, this will surely be a race you don’t want to miss.
