- Puerto Rico’s mobile sportsbooks will require bettors register at retail operators before accesses territory wide mobile betting.
- Nevada and Illinois held similar requirements.
- There is still no launch date for mobile sports betting in Puerto Rico.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico sports bettors will have to register at retail locales in order to access statewide mobile betting.
This is a part of the official regulations still on going in Puerto Rico for its betting market. Nevada requires in person registration and Illinois had similar requirements at launch. This is not an uncommon requirement in the betting market.
With the news of this regulation, however, this means PR is one step closer to having a launch date for mobile sportsbooks.
However, there still has yet to be an official date set.
Sports Betting In Puerto Rico Incoming
Still, sportsbooks continue to prepare for the inevitable launch. BetMGM, in conjunction with Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort announced its arrival in PR earlier in 2022.
“This is a monumental day for BetMGM as it marks the launch of our first operation outside of the U.S. mainland,” said Adam Greenblatt, BetMGM CEO. “Casino del Mar delivers exceptional guest experiences and is an ideal partner as we look to extend our brand in Puerto Rico.”
Both FanDuel and DraftKings are also looking to go live in Puerto Rico as well. Lawmakers are still debating the final regulations for the betting market, but that has not stopped sportsbooks from looking ahead.
Puerto Rico is a major tourist resort and a betting market will likely thrive with the constant traffic of customers. Expect an official launch date announcement soon in Puerto Rico.
