- Disney has searched for a sportsbook operator for a year, looking for a deal in the $3 billion range.
- DraftKings’ ability to grow with ESPN may be the additional revenue needed to surpass FanDuel in the US.
- Adding in India’s future sports betting regulation adds DraftKings up for success moving forward.
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Nothing has released since rumors of DraftKings and ESPN closing in on a partnership last week.
Still, with trusted reports, the $3 billion range is what the deal is to be worth.
Per reports, DraftKings would operate their sportsbook but with an ESPN title.
As the sports betting app would be ready to go, it would help “eliminate friction” for sports bettors.
[Sports fans are] craving the ability to actually place bets in a seamless fashion from their online digital sports experiences,” said Jimmy Pitaro, ESPN chairman.
With the ESPN partnership, DraftKings could add to their live streaming betting categories.
DraftKings is always under FanDuel for betting handle and revenue across legal sportsbooks. This partnership could be that push forward.
Looking International
Disney and DraftKings could also see revenue outside of the US. One major focus might be India.
Analyst Bernie McTernan believes legal India sports betting is around the corner. It would look to be an easy capitalization on a market with DraftKings and Disney+ Hotstar.
Disney+Hotstar has rights to the English Premier League, Wimbledon, cricket, and more.
The streaming rights give a lot of power to DraftKings. Reports suggest that India is worth $1.5 billion in mobile sports betting revenue. Being able to bet and watch games on the same device is certainly in a “seamless fashion.”
The next step though is to wait for a sports betting deal to become official. After partner searching for a year, Disney continues its interest in sports betting.
As for DraftKings, they may not hold the cards, but seem focused on getting a deal done. Citing a positive relationship with ESPN and Disney, this could be DraftKings’ catapult.
