Scheffler Bettors Rejoice After Dominant Masters Performance

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Despite a double bogey on the 18th, Scottie Scheffler won his first green jacket this weekend with a dominant performance at the Masters.

Scheffler came into the week ranked as the number one player in the world, but oddsmakers never adjusted, which led to big payouts for those that bet on the eventual winner.

Dominant Second Round Led The Way For Scottie Scheffler

Legal online sportsbooks were slow to adjust to Scheffler’s rise, not just before the tournament, but during it as well.

Scottie Scheffler shot below par during each round of the tournament. In doing so, the eventual winner’s worst day ranking wise was when he finished tied for the third-best round four score at one-under-par.

Online sportsbooks took notice after his dominant second round, shortening his odds all the way from +700 to +110. It may have been perceived as too risky for some PGA Tour bettors to bet on the leader after only two rounds, but by that point, Scheffler already had a five-stroke lead and had shown no signs of nerves.

Historic Final Round By Rory McIlroy Wasn’t Enough

Rory McIlroy tied the lowest final-round score in Master’s history with his incredible 64 shot performance on Sunday, but his performance on Thursday and Friday was too much for him to overcome in the end.

McIlroy shot a 73 on the first two days, but his historic performance in round four not only made him a lot of money ($1,620,000 million to be exact), but it also made him one of the early betting favorites for the 2023 Masters.

Rory’s final round momentum may lead to dominance at Augusta in 2023, but the real question may be why isn’t the reigning 2022 Master Champion, top-ranked golfer, and hottest player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, the favorite.
