- Completion of the New Seabrook Park renovations would make the venue the largest charitable casino in the U.S.
- The NH sports betting bill that passed through the legislature would authorize retail sportsbooks at 10 locations across the state.
SEABROOK, N.H. – While those living in the Boston Area had the chance to gamble at the grand opening of Encore Boston Harbor last week, they will soon have an alternate option at the New Seabrook Park. The upcoming charitable casino is set to be the largest of its kind in the U.S.
New Hampshire gambling laws only allow for charitable casinos and bets made can be made no higher than $10 dollars. Slot machines are also prohibited from being operated in the state, however, a new form of gambling is on the horizon for NH residents.
The sports betting bill NH HB 480 passed through the state legislature last month and is only awaiting the signature from New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu to become law.
The bill will authorize as much as five state-wide online sports wagering apps and will allow 10 retail locations to offer the activity as well. One of those retail locations is expected to be New Seabrook Park.
In May, Seacoast Online was able to speak to Andre Carrier, the CEO of Eureka Casino Resorts, about the potential of a sportsbook in the company’s NH property.
Carrier said to the outlet
The ability to offer sports betting at New Seabrook Park would be something that Encore Boston Harbor still can’t do. Even though there are multiple sports gambling bills sitting in the Massachusetts legislature, none of them have passed quite yet and there is no indication whether or not one of them will.
“We want this to be a one-stop shop for entertainment,” said Carrier. “When people say ‘Hey we’re going out’ this is the place they’re going to want to be.”
The renovations to Seabrook Park will include a 40,000 square-foot gaming floor. Which should be enough to keep guests entertained. But, having sports betting would be a huge selling factor if the company wishes to draw in out of state visitors the way Encore Boston Harbor is now.
