NIAGRA FALLS, N.Y. – On Friday, the Seneca Nation will complete their sports betting trifecta and launch a sportsbook at Niagara Resort & Casino.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. EST and the first bet will be placed by the president of the Seneca Nation, Rickey Armstrong Sr.
The Niagara Resort & Casino Sports Lounge will debut in a temporary location with a more permanent location expected to open in 2020. The tribe has previously introduced sports betting at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino and Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino.
The opening of these casino sportsbooks comes despite the recent conflict between the Seneca Nation and the State of New York. In November, a federal judge from New York ruled that the tribe owed the state $335 million in taxes due to slots revenue they withheld for years.
It is unclear how that ruling will affect how the Seneca Nation will operate its sportsbooks.
With sports betting now being offered at Niagara Resort & Casino, there is now a total of 11 brick-and-mortar sportsbooks in New York.
None of these sports wagering venues offer mobile betting outside of their casino facility. Each one of them also only allows patrons that are 21 years old or older to legally place sports bets in their casinos.
