HONOLULU, Hawaii – With the weather only getting colder throughout much of the continental United States, the PGA Tour goes tropical this week with the Sony Open from Honolulu, Hawaii.

The 2021 iteration of the tournament will begin Thursday from Waialae Country Club located on the O’ahu island of Hawaii.

This will be the first full PGA Tour event in 2021 and will feature some big names out on the course including Webb Simpson, 2020 PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa, and Sergio Garcia.

One of the big golf betting trends for this tournament has been the performance of the players in the preceding Tournament of Champions. Seven of the last nine winners of the Sony Open have played the week before at the Tournament of Champions, with Cameron Smith bucking that trend last year.

Nevertheless, there is still tons of value across the board with strong players at the top of the field.

Webb Simpson (+1200), Collin Morikawa (+1400), and Daniel Berger (+1400) are all great chalk choices at the top of the board, with all of them coming in over 12/1 odds. All three of those golfers enjoyed big wins in 2020, with Morikawa being one of the breakout performers of the year.

Morikawa and Simpson will be in a group with Marc Leishman as one of the featured groups at the Sony Open.

In the next group, names like Sungjae Im (+1800), Abraham Ancer (+2500), and Kevin Kisner (+2500) all hold solid value. Im is looking for his second win on the PGA Tour, with his first coming at the Honda Classic, a tournament with a very similar setup to this week’s Sony Open. Additionally, Kisner has finished in the top five at this event in three of the last five years.

Longshot bettors can eye a name like Takumi Kanaya (+17500). The rookie is making his debut after turning pro in October from the amateur tour. It took Kanaya just one month to win two titles on the Japanese Tour, and could be the shocker of the year at the Sony Open.
