TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sportradar, the Swiss-based data distribution partner of every major sports league in the U.S., announced on Friday that it has acquired Optima. Optima is an international sports betting and online gaming software provider.
“This acquisition puts us in prime position to achieve our aim of becoming the world’s leading supplier of modular turnkey betting services and solutions,” said Carsten Koerl, CEO of Sportradar.
Sportradar now has the capability to offer sportsbooks in emerging markets such as the U.S. This includes both a platform to be able to offer online sports betting, and the data to be able to provide live sports betting.
Access to official league data is becoming more and more crucial for sportsbooks to have since it is used to power live betting. According to FanDuel, “In-play wagering is a large part of the sports betting experience and accounts for more than 50% of FanDuel Sportsbook’s total business.”
The NFL recently gave Sportradar the ability to distribute official league data to sportsbooks, but Sportradar is asking for a cut to do so.
The company’s newest acquisition gives U.S. sportsbooks all the more reason to do business with Sportradar.
“Optima utilizes the very best-in-breed technology to provide their clients with the most advanced and flexible platforms and having a 360-degree product portfolio is a key part of our future growth strategy. We are delighted to welcome them to the Sportradar family,” said Koerl.
“We are excited about the potential combination of the leading trading, risk management, and betting entertainment services with the leading integral omnichannel sports betting and gaming platform,” said Jacob Lopez, CEO of Optima. “We are fully committed to a common vision and will work hard to continue ensuring Sportradar also offers the leading platform services for the group.”
The acquisition went into effect immediately after the deal was announced.
