- Sportradar will provide official data and live streaming for FanDuel Sportsbook users.
- The partnership will start by providing soccer and tennis matches on the betting app.
- FanDuel GM, Niall Connell, thinks this will triple the betting handle on these events.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – As the sports betting market in the US continues to grow, so do the partnerships that provide evelvated sports betting offerings for gamblers all around the country.
Announced Tuesday, FanDuel Group and Sportradar AG will expand their partnership, offering a live broadcast of sporting events on the New Jersey’s FanDuel Sportsbook app in juxtaposition to the betting board.
While popular in Europe, this will be the first time American gamblers get to experience the direct connection to the event they are wagering on, without having to be in a sportsbook lounge or stuck in front of a TV.
After a trial period, the sportsbook will display various tennis matches as well as European soccer games on the app, as FanDuel GM Niall Connell believes that interest in a sporting event can triple when bettors have the ability to watch the event live.
“It’d be a bit like betting on a horse race but not being able to see the actual race at all. Plus, a lot of this tennis content is matches that aren’t on terrestrial TV,” said Connell.
The reason for only offering soccer games and tennis matches comes down to the fact that Sportradar owns the rights and data to these leagues. Their hope, however, is that they can swing the five main professional sports in the US to offer their services as well.
Getting the professional leagues on board may take some time, as the majority of the most watched sports are in long-term TV rights deals. However, Sportradar has already established a data deal with the MLB earlier this year, which greatly expanded their in-play wagering options.
Sportradar is also looking to expand into other states, once their mobile and online wagering standards have been legalized and regulated. A major point of emphasis is that the partnership between FanDuel and Sportradar is not exclusive, meaning competitors such as DraftKings could slide their way into giving their bettors the same abilities.
In-play wagering was the big thing a few years ago and now the expansion of live betting is making its rounds. With the ability to watch and wager at the same, FanDuel is likely to remain the top mobile sportsbook provider in New Jersey until others can play catch up.
