- Sports wagering kiosks allow sports bettors to manually fill out their bet slip, rather than requiring the assistance of a sportsbook writer.
- Kambi, IGT, SBTech, and Scientific Games, are the biggest sports wagering terminal distributors in America.
- The G2E Las Vegas event will showcase the newest sports wagering kiosk technology.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Las Vegas event set to begin in about a week, speakers at the event are giving early hints at some of the new technology they plan to introduce.
While mobile betting apps seem to be getting most of the attention these days, sports wagering kiosks have played an equally essential role in expanding the US sports betting landscape. Max Dubossarsky, COO at Betinvest gave some early indication to the company’s new kiosk technology.
“When developing this software, we put a lot of thought into the UI and UX, and we’ve added new features to reduce the time required to place bets. It has the option to accept bet slips automatically or turn on an alert service that will notify the user about changes in the odds during in-play betting.”
Speakers from other companies and organizations in the sports betting industry are also set to speak at the G2E including officials from MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, the American Gaming Association and more.
However, sports wagering kiosks play a factor for everyone involved in the US sports betting industry. Sports bettors themselves benefit from their availability, casino owners save money with them, and state legislators are trying to expand there presence outside of traditional gaming facilities.
The Role Of Sports Betting Kiosks In US Sports Betting
Since PASPA was struck down in May of 2018, 17 states outside of Nevada have now legalized sports wagering. Each state has its own laws when it comes to the activity with some favoring mobile sportsbooks while others aren’t quite ready for that yet.
Although, one commonality between all states with legal sports betting is that each one of them has embraced self-service betting kiosks in one way or another. It makes sense for experienced sports bettors because approaching a sportsbook writer to fill out your bet slip may be too slow.
This is especially true for in-game wagering in which the odds can change throughout every passing minute of a live sporting event. It’s also useful for bettors because kiosks are available to use in most US casinos even after the sportsbook closes.
As for the businesses that implement the betting kiosks, there are multiple ways in which they save money.
“Installing betting terminals is especially beneficial to business owners since this eliminates the need to employ staff and rent office space – the system is fully automated,” said Dubossarsky. “All you need to do is install the terminals – our software will do the rest of the work for you.”
It’s because of this reason that many casino sportsbooks in the U.S. implement more kiosks then they hire sportsbook writers. Businesses can take in bets at a faster rate and for a longer time period when they install this amenity.
The adaptability of sports wagering kiosks is also attractive to state officials.
For example, the Oregon Lottery partnered with sports wagering distributor SBTech in June to help power the state’s sports betting platforms including termials that will be set up in lottery retailers.
Lawmakers in Arizona also introduced a bill in 2019 that aimed to have sports wagering kiosks distributed thought the state and owned by the tribal casino operators.
New Hampshire even passed NH HB 480 which will allow 10 locations in the state to have sports betting kiosks as part of their sports gambling operations.
The top sports betting kiosk distributors in the US as of now are Scientific Games, Kambi, SBTech, and IGT. Representatives from Scientific Games, IGT, SBtech and many more will be speaking at the G2E this year.
While there will be many topics discussed at the conference, don’t be surprised to see a lot of talk about the crucial convenience that is sports wagering kiosks.
