SAN FRANCISCO – The Green Bay Packers visit the San Francisco 49ers for the Week 3 iteration of Sunday Night Football.
The 49ers are currently 3 point home favorites, with (-165) moneyline odds. The Packers’ moneyline is currently set at (+140) and the points total set at 50 by regulated sportsbooks.
After a disappointing 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, the Packers bounced back and defeated the Detroit Lions in Week 2, covering the 11.5 point spread.
The Packers’ offense was spearheaded by running back Aaron Jones in Week 2, racking up 17 rushing attempts for 67 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus an even more impressive 6 receptions for 48 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. He surpassed each of his receiving props, including his total receptions prop (2.5) and his reception yards prop (20.5). For this week, his receiving yards prop is set at 27.5.
The 2020 MVP QB Aaron Rodgers also performed well, completing 22 of his 27 pass attempts and tossing four touchdowns, blowing by his passing touchdown prop of 2.5.
Other Game Notes
The 49ers have started the 2021 season off strongly, winning both of their first two matchups against the Lions and the Eagles. They failed to cover the spread in Week 1 but managed to cover their -3 point spread in their Week 2 matchup against Philadelphia.
On the other hand, San Francisco’s offense has been searching for its identity after losing running back Raheem Mostert for the season in Week 1. Elijah Mitchell has stepped in and performed admirably, rushing for 146 yards on 36 carries in 2021. Mitchell was held out of practice this week with a shoulder injury but the 49ers’ coaching staff still has hope that Mitchell can suit up Sunday. Mitchell’s injury is absolutely vital to monitor, as he has handled 36 of the 49ers 45 running back carries so far this year.
San Francisco has struggled at home recently, dropping seven of their last eight home games straight up. They have also struggled against the spread, failing to cover in six of the last seven games that saw them favored to win.
On the other hand, Green Bay has been very good on the road, winning 9 of their last 13. They have also been solid against the spread, covering in four of their last six games overall.
The total, currently set at 50, has gone OVER in 5 of Green Bay’s last 6 games, as well as in 9 of the last 12 matchups between these two teams. NFL sports bettors should take that statistic into account when betting on the game.
The game begins on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. EST on the NBC Network.
