TAMPA, Fla. – Super Bowl LV will be historic in many ways. Not only are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the first team to host a Super Bowl in their stadium, but a woman will be a referee in the big game for the first time in NFL history.

Sarah Thomas also made NFL history before, becoming the first full-time female official in 2015. Now, Thomas will make history again, as she officiates the fifth playoff game of her career and her first Super Bowl as she will be the Down Judge in Super Bowl LV.

There will also be two other firsts for women as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chiefs coaching staffs feature females in prominent roles on their staff this season
