- Thursday’s men’s basketball game between the Temple Owls and the UAB Blazers was flagged for unusual wagering activity.
- UAB opened as 1.5-point favorites before the spread jumped to eight points, which the Blazers easily covered in a 28-point road victory.
- Reports claim that Temple has been monitored “for a while” by U.S. Integrity.
PHILADELPHIA – Pennsylvania betting sites received an alert from U.S. Integrity for unusual wagering activity in Temple’s men’s basketball game on Thursday. The Owls opened as 1.5-point home underdogs before the line swung heavily in favor of their opponent, the UAB Blazers.
This caught the attention of U.S. Integrity, who monitor legal sports betting and alert casinos or sportsbooks when there’s suspicious wagering. The betting line on the UAB vs Temple game moved significantly throughout the day at Alabama sports betting sites and settled at a 7.0-point spread favoring the Blazers.
Could Temple Be Match Fixing?
Temple got embarrassed at home for a second straight game, losing by 28 points to UAB on Thursday. The Owls were 5.5-point home favorites at legal college basketball sportsbooks against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, but lost outright by five points.
The Owls have been bad this season, losing 12 of their last 15 games with a 11-19 record on the season. This doesn’t mean they’ve been involved in any match-fixing, but it’s possible that the “suspicious wagering activity” was a result of insider information.
U.S. Integrity had a similar situation last spring with the Alabama baseball betting scandal, which led head coach Brad Bohanon to be fired for giving insider information on a pitching change. The American Athletic Conference (AAC) are one of the NCAA Conferences that the U.S. Integrity monitors for suspicious betting activity.
The Temple Owls now look towards their regular-season finale against the UTSA Roadrunners before the AAC Conference Tournament starting on Wednesday, March 13. Temple has long +25000 odds to win the tournament as the No. 13 seed.
