LAS VEGAS – After the massive success of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson’s exhibition golf series, known simply as “The Match”, Mickelson is looking to make the event an annual occurrence.
The first Match took place in November of 2018 and was a welcome breath of fresh air in the sports world that rarely gets to watch these types of friendly competitions. The latest edition of The Match – pitting Tiger and Peyton Manning against Phil and Tom Brady – was an even bigger smash hit. The Match II averaged 5.8 million viewers across Turner Sports’ many networks, and became the largest golf audience ever on cable.
While these numbers might be due to a strong void of sports during the quarantine, the event was certainly successful, and also raised almost $25 Million for COVID relief. The legal sports betting industry also saw a boon in betting handle from the event.
Now, rumors have already begun for who will be featured in the pairings for a potential third edition of The Match.
During the competition, Steph Curry tweeted out that he wants in on the next round.
now we cooking! The US Open medal convo got my dying….then Phil bout hits the ball. TB12 waiting for the back 9 like Super Bowl LI…I want in on The Match 3 #TheMatch2

Which led to Phil telling the LA Times this week that he would love to see the event become a regular on the golf calendar.
“I think you could showcase guys like Steph Curry and Michael Jordan or Tony Romo and Patrick Mahomes, who are all good golfers, elite talents and have great personalities. Those personalities are going to come out with this event. Or you could have someone who loves the game and is competitive but is really entertaining like Larry David and Bill Murray. I think that could shine,” said Mickelson.
Since then, odds have been released for the next pairing, with Jordan and Curry leading the race.
Who Will Be The Partners of Tiger Woods Or Phil Mickelson in “The Match 3”?
- Steph Curry -240
- Michael Jordan EVEN
- Tony Romo +110
- Bill Murray +500
- Larry David +500
- Patrick Mahomes +500
- Charles Barkley +1000
As the world continues to work its way back to normality after the effects of the coronavirus, events like The Match are a welcome and pleasant escape to simpler times. It also allows for more golf betting opportunities since the PGA Tour has had to cancel events this year.
