- The Seminole Hard Rock Sportsbook has finally stopped accepting wagers, weeks after a ruling declared it illegal.
- The app itself claims that it remains committed to “building the best place for sports betting in Florida.”
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida’s one active sportsbook app has been forcibly shut down after the Seminole Tribe was ordered to cease accepting wagers via the Hard Rock Sportsbook app.
Hard Rock App Shut Down
The Seminole Tribe launched their Hard Rock Sportsbook app on November 1, but this was short-lived, as a judge ruled that they could not legally continue to operate.
Although they did not immediately comply with order to shut down, after appealing the case, and requesting a motion to stay. This motion was denied, and now they’ve had to cease accepting wagers from Florida residents.
Florida-regulated sports betting is now unavailable in Florida once again, meaning residents will have to take advantage of online sportsbooks to get their wagers in this NFL season.
Status Of The App
Gary Bitner, Spokesman for the tribe, addressed the issue in an email on Saturday.
The Seminole Tribe “will temporarily suspend operations of its mobile app in Florida,” said Bitner.
The Hard Rock Sportsbook app itself greeted users with an informative message regarding the current situation.
“Although we are temporarily suspending the acceptance of new bets and account deposits, we remain committed to building the best place for sports betting in Florida.”
It’s currently unknown if the app will be resurrected in the future, or if they will even be able to do so depending on what future legislation could do for legal sports betting in Florida.
