Tim Tebow’s NFL Release Has No Impact On Jaguars’ Season Odds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -The Tim Tebow experiment at tight end has run its short course and ended with the former Heisman-winning quarterback being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday. For betting purposes, this move made no impact on the lines for the team, as all of the Jaguars’ odds have remained the same.

“Thankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks. I’ve never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I’m grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream,” tweeted Tebow after the news broke.

The Failed Tight End Experiment

To the expectations of many, Tim Tebow’s attempted return to the NFL as a tight end has failed. The former quarterback turned minor league baseball player turned tight end was cut on Tuesday morning by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tebow was cut after Week 1 of the preseason where his performance was highly criticized. Not only have regulated sports betting outlets left the team’s odds untouched after Tebow’s release but there is a case to be made that the team could now be better off without him.

The Odds (Didn’t) Change

Despite Tebow having a local fan base in Jacksonville and many people rooting for him, his release from the team has had no impact on the results of the season, at least according to  NFL betting sites.

With a low win total, it’s to be expected that the Jags will not be making an appearance in the playoffs this season.

Also, mobile sportsbooks are giving Jacksonville the fourth-longest odds to win the Super Bowl (+10000), odds of (+275) to have a winning record, and the fourth-shortest odds to be the lowest-scoring team in the regular season (+1200).

If the odds are correct, the Jaguars were going to have an unimpressive season with or without Tebow. In the grand scheme of things, none of the expected struggles will be caused by Tebow’s absence from the roster.
