- Derek Brunson is a +280 underdog in the main event fight against Edmen Shahbazyan who is a -340 favorite.
- The O/U total for the Trevin Giles vs. Kevin Holland fight is listed at 2.5 rounds.
- Joanne Calderwood is a -149 favorite over Jennifer Maia who’s underdog odds sit at +129.
LAS VEGAS — The latest edition of the UFC’s Fight Night event takes place Saturday with a middleweight division main event fight between Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan taking center stage.
UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan main card will feature a full slate of six fights that give UFC bettors a wide variety of matchups to bet on.
The main card of Friday’s UFC Fight Night 175 doesn’t feature a lot of the top fighters in the UFC and that’s what makes betting on this event different from betting on some of the UFC’s bigger events.
Middleweight Main Event Fight – Brunson (20-7) vs. Shahbazyan (11-0)
The main event fight between Derek Brunson (+280) and Edmen Shahbazyan (-340) is worthy of being the main event as both fighters are looking to climb the Middleweight division rankings to eventually get a shot at the division title.
Shahbazyan is the favorite in this one and rightfully so as he’s yet to record a loss in his young UFC career. Brunson is a capable striker but Shahbazyan is the more complete fighter and should come out of this fight with his perfect record intact.
The O/U round total for this fight is set at 1.5-rounds and bettors should feel comfortable taking the over. Winner: Shahbazyan (-340), Over.
Women’s Flyweight Fight – Calderwood (14-4) vs. Maia (17-6-1)
The Women’s division has provided the UFC with some of the biggest upsets in the sport’s history.
The fight between Joanne Calderon (-149) and Jennifer Maia (+129) will be one of the closest bouts on the main card and it is reflected in the odds. Calderon is the narrow favorite but that shouldn’t keep bettors from placing odds on the more experienced fighter in Jennifer Maia.
There likely won’t be a knockout in this fight as neither fighter has won via KO in their last five fights. Expect this exciting fight to be decided at the judges table which means the 2.5-round O/U total will go over. Winner: Maia (+129), Over.
Light Heavyweight Fight – Herman (26-14) vs. Meerschaert (31-13)
Ed Herman (+137) comes into this light heavyweight fight as the underdog against Gerald Meerschaert (-157). The last time Meerschaert stepped into the octagon he lost via a first-round KO and going up against a polished striker like Herman could lead to a similar outcome.
Herman has won his last two fights and bettors should take his +137 odds to beat Meerschaert.
The O/U round total for this fight is listed at 1.5-rounds and bettors should take the over as this fight will likely end in the early portion of the third round. Winner: Herman (+137), Over.
Middleweight Fight – Holland (17-5) vs. Giles (12-2)
Kevin Holland (-205) and Trevin Giles (+175) will likely be one of the most explosive fights on the main card.
Both of these fighters are able to end fights with just one punch and that striking power will be on display. Holland is the favorite and bettors should feel comfortable putting the extra money down to invest in his odds.
Giles is a tough competition and will make this fight close but if Holland can bring parts of this fight to the mat, Giles will be at a major disadvantage.
The O/U round total for this fight is set at 2.5 rounds and bettors should take the under. This fight is unlikely to be decided at the judges’ table. Winner: Holland (-205), Under.
Lightweight Fight – Vannata (11-4-2) vs. Green (25-10-1)
The lightweight division has been one of the most slept on weight classes in the entire UFC.
The depth of the division will be on display when Bobby Green (+140) takes on Lando Vannata (-160). The legal sportsbooks reflect how close this fight will be as both fighters have similar fighting styles.
Bettors should take the favorite Vannata in this fight as Green has struggled in his last couple of fights. This being such a tightly contested fight will likely send the 2.5 round total for the match over. Winner: Vannata (-160), Over.
Welterweight Fight – Luque (18-7-1) vs. Brown (12-3)
Randy Brown (+170) takes on Vicente Luque (-200) in what will be an exciting all-around Welterweight fight. Brown and Luque both were victorious in their last UFC fights making this one of the better fights we’ll see on the main card.
It’s a bit of a dice roll but bettors should take the +170 odds on Randy Brown to pull off the upset over Luque.
Brown has shown that he’s a versatile fighter that can win with his hands or on the ground. He also has the height and reach advantage over Luque too which should aid him in leaving Saturday night with a win.
This O/U round total for this fight is set at 1.5-rounds, bettors should take the over as this fight will conclude in the third round with a Randy Brown knockout. Winner: Brown (+170), Over.
