WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Unibet Sportsbook at Mohegan Sun Pocono opened for business over the weekend.
The Unibet Sportsbook at this location underwent a soft launch two weeks ago. After a successful trial, the sportsbook gained approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. This allowed the Unibet Sportsbook to officially open on Saturday.
During the test trial, sports bettors could only wager on tennis, soccer, or baseball games. Now that the Unibet Sportsbook is open, bettors have more options available. Football, basketball, hockey, and more sports are available. The Unibet Sportsbook is even tacking action on the Canadian Football League.
The Unibet Sportsbook has a high-definition video wall. The wall is able to show 16 ongoing games at the same time. The games that are being shown will likely be games that patrons can wager on. The investment made to build the sportsbook was $1.2 million. The investment was made by both the Mohegan Sun Pocono and the Kindred Group.
“I think this is a beautiful location. We chose Mohegan Sun based on what it brings to the Pennsylvania customers. We’re very confident this is going to be a good space and the local people will be very happy,” said Manuel Stan, vice president of Kindred Group.
Although the retail sportsbook is ready, there is still more to come. The Mohegan Sun Pocono indicated that they will also open a mobile Unibet Sportsbook in the future. For now, there is no mobile sports wagering offered by this sportsbook.
During the opening ceremony, former NFL star LaVar Arrington was present. He made the first legal sports bet at the new Unibet Sportsbook. He placed a bet on his alma mater, Penn State University, to win against Purdue. Arrington ended up winning his wager.
Even though patrons must wait for a mobile option, the Unibet Sportsbook is fully operational. There are now 10 retail sportsbooks available in Pennsylvania. It is likely that more Pennsylvania sports betting options will open in the future.
