Unibet Sportsbook Soft Launch Underway At Mohegan Sun Pocono

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Mohegan Sun Pocono Unibet Sportsbook is wrapping up the end of its soft launch on Wednesday.

Before a sportsbook can open in Pennsylvania, it needs to go through a test trial. The new Unibet Sportsbook soft-launched on Tuesday and the trial will last until midnight on Wednesday. The trial will be under the supervision of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

“These test nights under Gaming Control Board supervision will allow us to test the software, employee training, our procedures,” said David Parfrey, the casino’s VP of marketing.

Due to the tests, there are some limitations that are going to be put into place for the sportsbook. Patrons can only bet on soccer, tennis, and baseball during the trial runs. This is so the staff becomes familiar with the entire process of sports betting. It is also to test the technology as well. But the limitations will not last forever.

If everything goes well for the casino, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will approve the sportsbook. In that case, the Unibet Sportsbook will launch on Thursday. Then the full range of Pennsylvania sports betting will become available at this location. With the location of the sportsbook, sports bettors will have an easy time finding it.

“We specifically located it at the front entrance because there is going to be great synergy between Molly O’Sheas over there and the enhanced viewing experience here. Since it’s so close to our main valet, people could come in for a whole day and watch a game or they could just come in and bet on their favorite team,” said Parfrey.

The sportsbook takes up a 1,130 square-foot area. Within it, there is seating that will hold around 40 people. Sports betting terminals and kiosks are present within the sportsbook as well. The main centerpiece for the Unibet Sportsbook is the 28-foot video wall. The video wall will be playing ongoing games that bettors can wager on.

Although the retail Unibet Sportsbook is available, there is no launch date for the mobile sportsbook yet. The Mohegan Sun expects to have more details on the mobile sportsbook soon.

This Unibet-branded sportsbook is the second sportsbook launched in the United States. The first recently launched in New Jersey as well. If the trend continues, another Unibet Sportsbook can launch in a different state with legal sports betting in the near future.
