- This is the third mobile sportsbook in DC.
WASHINGTON – BetMGM has officially gone live in Washington DC with its mobile sportsbook thanks to its partnership with the Washington Nationals.
Through this deal, the BetMGM mobile sportsbook can operate within a two-block radius of Nationals Park. This is similar to how the William Hill mobile sportsbook operates around the Capital One Arena.
Now the Washington DC sports betting market has three active sportsbooks in BetMGM, William Hill, and Gamebet DC. The market is shaping up to be more active going forward.
BetMGM In Washington DC
BetMGM sees the potential in the Washington DC sports betting market and is eager to gain a foothold in the area. Additionally, BetMGM is launching in Maryland and is available in Virginia. This partnership gives them a strong footing in the DMV.
“Launching in Washington, D.C. at Nationals Park sets the stage for our plans to expand BetMGM within the region, as we’ve already seen great success in Virginia,” said Adam Greenblatt, CEO of BetMGM. “The Washington Nationals have been a fantastic partner, committed to innovating the in-stadium fan experience and we’re looking forward to opening our retail sportsbook at the stadium later this year.”
The BetMGM sportsbook will not be available citywide as Washington DC’s sports betting regulations only allows for the lottery run Gamebet DC to offer citywide betting.
The limited radius should not be too much of an issue, however, as mobile sports betting is actually dominated in DC by William Hill who also has a limited radius. The name recognition of BetMGM will surely allow it to thrive in the Nation’s Capital.
The Washington Nationals also benefit greatly from this deal. Sports betting fans will find exclusive promotions and fan-related events run through BetMGM which should increase fan engagement with the Nationals.
“As our official sports betting partner, BetMGM further enhances the greatest in-venue fan experience in Washington, D.C. through its state-of-the-art entertainment products and services,” said Alan Gottlieb, Chief Operating Office of Lerner Sports Group. “The BetMGM mobile app will enable our fans to engage with the game in new and exciting ways, while the BetMGM sportsbook connected to Nationals Park will provide Nationals fans and the D.C. community with a first-class gathering place to celebrate their passion for sports.”
The legal sports betting market in DC will likely see a major boost in monthly betting handle from the addition of BetMGM. This is a positive direction for the local betting market.
