LOS ANGELES – The Tennessee Titans will be playing their first game this season without star RB Derrick Henry who is out due to injury so QB Ryan Tannehill will have to do more against the Los Angeles Rams.

Tannehill’s total passing yards are set at 269.5 at legal sports betting sites for the game. Tannehill has only thrown for over 269 yards three times this season.

Tannehill Poised For Big Game

Tannehill is averaging 250.2 passing yards per game through 8 weeks. He has thrown for over 269 yards in Week 2 with a 347-yard outing against the Seattle Seahawks, in Week 4 with a 298 outing against the New York Jets, and Week 7 with a 270-yard game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Seahawks give up 273.9 passing yards a game and are bottom five in the league at defending the pass. The Jets are bottom four in the league and give up 274.9 passing yards a game. The Chiefs are the sixth worse team at defending the pass and give up 269.8 per game.

Tannehill having his big passing games against the sixth, fifth, and fourth worse passing defenses in the league does not bode well for him covering against the Rams.

What makes this outing different, is that Derrick Henry is out. The Titans are a top-four rushing team in the league. The average 32.5 rushing attempts and 147.4 rushing yards per game. The Titans only average 229.5 passing yards per game which is middle-of-the-pack this season.

With Henry out, the Titans will be running more passing plays so Tannehill should be able to hit the Over simply due to more attempts.

The Rams Defense

Standing in Tannehill’s way is Los Angeles. The Rams’ defense gives up 264.1 passing yards per game, but they have locked down QBs more often than their average shows.

Only two QBs have thrown for over 269.5 yards against the Rams defense, Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady who threw for 432 passing yards, and Houston Texans QB Davis Mills who threw for 310 passing yards.

Outside of these two games, the Rams consistently hold QBs to below 200 yards. The combination of defensive tackle Aaron Donald and now linebacker Von Miller who recently joined the Rams makes them a tough matchup for any QB.

The last time Tannehill faced the Rams defense he threw for just 172 yards, was intercepted, and was sacked 4 times.
