- US sportsbooks are not taking action on the NBA Slam Dunk contest during the All-Star break.
- Since the judges are celebrities, they are not covered under the NBA’s betting integrity policy.
- Online sportsbooks still host betting lines surrounding the event.
CHICAGO – With NBA All-Star weekend in full swing, sports bettors who want to bet on the many events taking place may have noticed the lack of betting lines surrounding the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Sportsbooks in the United States are not hosting betting lines surrounding the event, making eager sports bettors unable to wager on the event at those sportsbooks.
Online sportsbooks, however, do host odds, so there are still options for sports bettors to bet on everything during the All-Star Weekend festivities.
Not A Slam Dunk
Patrick Eichner, a PointsBet spokesman, was told by New Jersey’s Department of Gaming Enforcement that the reason the sportsbook couldn’t offer betting lines on the contest is that the judges are celebrities, and are not covered under the NBA’s betting integrity policy.
Other states with legal sports betting won’t offer odds for the Slam Dunk Contest for the same reason.
The NBA All-Star Weekend will be a host to a lot of other festivities as well, however. Events like the 3-point Contest and the Skills Competition will have betting lines offered, as the winners in these challenges are decided by players execution on the court and not judge voted.
