TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – William Hill signed a partnership to become an Authorized Sports Betting Operator for the NBA on Wednesday.
The deal allows William Hill to have access to official league data and NBA trademarks to use in both it’s land-based sportsbooks and mobile sports wagering apps. William Hill will also be promoted throughout official NBA platforms such as the NBA app, the league’s social media accounts, and NBA.com.
“We are proud of this creative partnership that benefits our customers and our partners nationwide while promoting legalized wagering on NBA events,” said V.P. of Strategy and Business Development for William Hill, Dan Shapiro, in a company press release.
“The NBA has been a leader in recognizing the benefits of a legal sports betting market. We expect this to be the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the league and its teams.”
The deal comes as the fourth of its kind for the NBA. The NBA signed similar deals with The Stars Group and with MGM Resorts and FanDuel last year.
William Hill also has an almost identical partnership with the NHL, which the company announced back in March. Having access to official league data has proven to be crucial for many sportsbook operators across the country as it allows for a faster and more accurate live betting feature.
With the amount of sports bettors William Hill serves, having access to official league data will be a huge benefit for anyone betting on the NBA. According to the press release, “the company currently accepts one out of every four bets placed in the U.S.”
The European-based bookmaker now operates either a retail sportsbook, a William Hill sports betting app, or has a partnership with a state lottery in 10 U.S. states and counting. The primary states with legal sports betting that William Hill operates in are Nevada, New Mexico, Iowa, Mississippi, Indiana, West Virginia, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
“William Hill is a globally respected brand that has set an early standard for sports betting in the U.S. market,” said Scott Kaufman-Ross, SVP and head of fantasy and gaming for the NBA.
“We are delighted to partner with William Hill as they grow their business throughout the U.S. and are excited to work together to provide a world-class experience to our fans.”
