- Tickets for ‘no Triple Crown winner’ will be payed out.
BALTIMORE – Country House has scratched out of the Preakness Stakes on Tuesday, which means that there will be no Triple Crown winner this year.
Showing Signs Of Sickness
First reported by the Daily Racing Form (DRF), the trainers of Country House stated that he will not run the Preakness Stakes.
“He developed a little bit of a cough this morning. His appetite is good. He doesn’t have a fever. But he’s coughing. We drew blood. He’s acting like he’s going to get sick. He’s off the training list and if he’s off the training list, he’s off the Preakness list,” said trainer Bill Mott.
Although the cough isn’t serious, Mott told the DRF that he decided to prioritize the health and well-being of the horse instead of going for the Triple Crown.
“Usually, when something like this happens, a horse misses a couple of weeks of training. [Country House] is not seriously sick right now, but he’s showing indications that something is going on.”
This wasn’t the first time that Country House appeared to be sick. While he was at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby, he started to show signs that he was getting sick as well. Ultimately, Country House remained and won the Kentucky Derby.
Zero Chance Of A Triple Crown Winner
With Country House out of the Preakness Stakes, this means that there will not be a Triple Crown winner this year. After his controversial victory due to the fact that Maximum Security was disqualified from first place for interference, Country House had the opportunity to compete for the Triple Crown. Now that opportunity has been lost.
Country House being scratched is the tip of the iceberg of things going wrong with the Triple Crown. Omaha Beach was the original favorite to win the Kentucky Derby but he was scratched because of breathing problems due to an entrapped epiglottis.
Then there were issues at the Kentucky Derby itself. Maximum Security crossed the finish line first but was disqualified due to interference. Now the winner of the Derby who originally finished second has scratched out of the Preakness Stakes. This ultimately has ended the Triple Crown hopes for horse race fans.
But not everyone is going to be upset by these results. People who made a prop bet on ‘no Triple Crown Winner’ have officially won their bets. The horse gamblers who wagered that the Kentucky Derby winner will not win the Preakness Stakes will also receive their winnings earlier than normal.
In the end, there is not going to be a Triple Crown winner this year. The odds for the Preakness Stakes will soon update to reflect which horses are going to run the second race of the Triple Crown. Post time for the Preakness Stakes will be at 6:48 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 18.
