TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On April 9, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had added to the list of essential businesses in Florida and WWE made the cut.
On April 3, Florida issued a statewide stay at home order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus. Not all businesses ended up closing. Essential businesses, including grocery stores and various health services, remained open. However, the governor has made some additions to what is considered essential businesses in Florida.
In a memo, the list of additions to what is an essential business in Florida is made clear. Various counseling programs and those who are taking care of animals and plants are deemed essential workers.
WWE Is Essential To Florida
In the memo, employees in professional and media production programs with a national audience are also included as essential employees. The only rule is that the location where they work is closed to the public. WWE falls under this category which makes it an essential business in Florida.
For the past couple of televised showings, WWE has been pre-recorded. Now that the company is deemed an essential business, WWE will go back to broadcasting live matches. With how creative WWE has been with pre-recorded matches, those will likely continue to happen as well. This opens the door to WWE betting at online sportsbooks.
Governor DeSantis defended the decision by saying companies such as WWE fuels the Florida economy. Spokesmen from the WWE also believes that the company is needed now more than ever.
“We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times,” said WWE in a statement. “We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance.”
It is not just WWE and WWE betting that can return. There is a chance that UFC and UFC betting can make a return as well. Dana White wants UFC fights to return as soon as possible. Whether or not that will be allowed to happen in Florida is yet to be seen.
Betting On 24/7 Champ Rob Gronkowski
After WrestleMania, Rob Gronkowski became the WWE 24/7 champion. The 24/7 championship is a unique title where it can be challenged anywhere at any time. Now online sportsbooks are taking legal sports bets on whether or not Gronkowski will win another championship.
Gronkowski to Become Intercontinental or US Champ:
- No -400
- Yes +250
Will Gronkowski Become WWE or Universal Champion:
- No -1750
- Yes +600
Bettors do not have any faith that Gronkowski will win a main WWE championship. Bettors have good reason to doubt it will happen. Anyone can win the 24/7 championship. Enes Kanter from the Boston Celtics and Marshmello the DJ have won the 24/7 championship.
So, winning that championship does not mean Gronkowski has suddenly launched his WWE career.
But, these odds indicate that WWE betting is still alive and sports bettors and entertainment bettors alike have something to put action on while traditional sports are suspended.
